Overview & Scope

This privacy policy explains how personal data is handled when you use the “Wiener Öffis” Android app or contact the developer. Our primary goal is to provide a privacy-friendly experience without tracking or collecting unnecessary user data.

Collection and Processing of Personal Data

The “Wiener Öffis” app does not create user profiles, store personal data on external servers, or use any third-party analytics, tracking, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs.

Live Transit Data & Technical Connections

Our app retrieves real-time departure information from “Wiener Linien” via data.gv.at under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

To retrieve live transit updates, your device sends network requests directly to the public API servers. In doing so, standard technical network data (such as your IP address) is transmitted to the host infrastructure solely to establish the network connection. The app itself does not record, log, or track these network connections.

Please note that downloading or updating the app via Google Play involves data processing by Google LLC according to Google’s own privacy policy.

Email Communication

If you reach out to the developer via email for support or feedback, we retain your message and email address solely to process your request and provide technical support. Email addresses will never be used for marketing purposes or shared with third parties.

The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in providing user support and maintaining app quality (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Support emails are deleted once the inquiry has been resolved, and at the latest after 12 months of inactivity.

Affiliation Disclosure

The “Wiener Öffis” app is independently developed and operated. It has no official affiliation, endorsement, or formal association with Wiener Linien or any government entity, including the City of Vienna or the Republic of Austria.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We do not sell, rent, share, or disclose personal data to third parties. Support correspondence is kept strictly confidential unless disclosure is required by applicable law or a legal order from a competent court or authority.

Your Rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, restrict or object to its processing, and exercise data portability rights (Art. 15–21 GDPR). As the app itself does not process personal data, these rights primarily concern any email support correspondence.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Austria, the competent authority is the Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde (Data Protection Authority).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically to reflect operational, legal, or regulatory changes. The date at the top of this document indicates when the latest version was published.
